RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are gaining attention in the oncology field for their potential to regulate essentially every hallmark of tumor development. Among other processes, RBPs are involved in translational reprogramming of cancer cells, promoting adaptive mechanisms of stress resistance and cell plasticity that contribute to cancer cell aggressiveness. During my talk I will focus on two RBPs that promote melanoma metastasis, CSDE1 and PABPC5, which are emerging as regulators of membrane-associated translation. I will explain our efforts to untangle their mechanisms of action and evaluate their potential as clinical biomarkers and therapeutic targets.
